What is First Day?
A new way to access your digital course materials
First Day™ is Barnes & Noble College's inclusive access program, where digital course materials are included as an additional course charge for a particular course or program.
This program is easy and convenient for student use, provides an affordable option, and supports student success by ensuring every student is prepared for the first day of class.
What all does First Day™ include?
First Day™ course materials are digital textbooks and may include additional educational resources such as workbooks, problem sets, tutorials, video, simulations, and interactive software. Digital textbooks have many features that allow you to interact with your course content like never before. Depending on the course materials used, features may include highlighting, annotation, search functions, and multimedia links. All First Day™ materials are easy to access through your GeorgiaVIEW.

Faculty FAQs
How can faculty contribute to the success of the program?
Faculty contribute to the program's success by submitting their course material selections into the bookstore before the adoption deadline each semester.
What is included in the program?
Barnes & Noble College partners with 280+ participating publishers including Cengage, Elsevier, Macmillan, McGraw Hill, W.W. Norton, Pearson, Sage, and Wiley. Contact your bookstore manager for more information on current participating publishers.
Do I still have the autonomy to select what course materials I use for my course?
Yes, but keep in mind that First Day is for digital content (eBooks or Interactive Courseware, i.e. MyLabs, Revel, MindTap, Connect). Utilizing digital course material through the First Day model is simply an alternate delivery method to our students through GeorgiaVIEW with a material charge added to the course.
Will my department incur any cost to enroll into the First Day model?
No, students are billed the materials charge through the Bursar Department.
Can we do First Day with print or a lab book?
First Day by Course is only compatible with digital materials at this time. Print to supplement the digital content may be offered in the bookstore as “value option” or “recommended” as an optional student choice purchase. This is paid for by the student outside of the course charge in the traditional manner. Availability of the print option is determined by the publisher, and quantity may be limited.
How do students purchase if they decide not to be in the program?
Eligible students who have elected to opt-out of the program will be responsible for purchasing their course materials through the bookstore.
Is every student required to participate in First Day?
No, students will have the opportunity to Opt-Out of their First Day content and then be given the option to purchase the same content at the national retail price. In addition to negotiating discounts, your bookstore coordinates with the publishers to deliver materials through First Day, so they are available the first day of class. Opting-Out of the materials charge, and the automatic delivery of your electronic book and courseware, is not recommended. If a student chooses to Opt-Out, they will be responsible for purchasing access at the national retail price and any delay will hinder their success in their class.
Why not work directly with publishers?
Publishers do not have the ability to provide all the different formats of content that faculty request at the lowest price possible.
How can we be sure that this will lower textbook costs for our students?
BNC is committed to lowering the costs of course material to our students, and with negotiating the lowest possible prices with publishers, students save on average up to 80%.
How will my students know their materials content is integrated into the LMS and that a course materials charge will be assessed?
Sample SIS messaging and Syllabus language is provided to the institution to place notes on registration pages and schedules. When the student clicks the link to purchase their course materials, there is a notification that the course materials will be delivered through GeorgiaVIEW and the cost will be assessed to the student’s account. Additionally, welcome emails are sent on the First Day of class.
Will students be able to keep their course materials once they have completed the course?
Digital Interactive Courseware, such as MyLab, Connect and MindTap, is only available for the length of time that the LMS is open to the student for a specific course. For an eTextbook, the publisher will spell out the options available and the length of time may vary from 120 days to complete ownership through a download. For eTextbooks that allow ownership beyond the course, students may access their content by logging into their bookshelf at mydigitalcontent.com after the course(s) has ended. Students can also access their eTextbooks offline by downloading the Yuzu® app for iOS or Android™.
What happens if a faculty member changes their course material adoption?
If a faculty member changes their course material adoption, faculty should notify the bookstore of the new adoption, and the bookstore will ensure the new material is available and that students receive the corrected course materials.
What if students have questions or trouble accessing their digital course materials?
All students in the First Day program should be directed to contact Bookstore Customer Care at bookstorecustomercare@bncollege.com for assistance.
How do we ensure course materials in the First Day Complete program are accessible to students with accommodations?
The bookstore can accommodate students with accessibility needs. Our eTextbooks over multiple accessibility options including read aloud options and alternative text styles.
If I need my students to have access to my content materials in LMS prior to classes starting, can I do that with this program?
Yes, provided the content delivery was set up with the GeorgiaVIEW administrator or faculty member by working with the publisher and the bookstore, then content is available when the course is open for students. The bookstore can provide a timeline to cover key dates for implementation.
Will Faculty get complimentary access to the materials?
Yes, instructors are given complimentary access to the course material, based on their role in GeorgiaVIEW. Instructors will not be billed nor included on the invoice.
Will I receive an access code for my content?
